Place & identity

  • Location: A smaller area within the Fronsac landscape, in Fronsac and Saint-Michel-de-Fronsac.
  • Grapes: Merlot commonly leads, supported by the Cabernets.
  • Origin: Qualifying production follows Canon-Fronsac rules; the name does not denote Saint-Émilion Grand Cru.

At the table

  • Assess: Look for concentration, ripe fruit and the character of the tannic finish. Canon-Fronsac is a separate appellation, and its name alone does not establish more power or higher rank than Fronsac.
  • Pair: Try beef braised with mushrooms or grilled duck breast with a savoury jus. Keep the preparation lighter for a mature bottle whose fruit and tannin have become more delicate.
  • Service: Start around 16–18°C. Give a closed young wine air only after tasting; use a careful sediment decant near service when needed, without imposing a fixed decanting time.
