Domaine Breton

A grower reference whose range includes Chinon alongside other western Touraine appellations.

Historic estates and founders

Domaine Charles Joguet

  • Chinon, plot by plot: In Chinon, Charles Joguet chose to vinify the plots separately: their names became those of the cuvées rather than disappearing into a single blend. ‘Clos de la Dioterie’ is a reference point, with its old north-east-facing Cabernet Franc vines, which La RVF recommends leaving to age.
  • The artist and the grower: Joguet was already exhibiting his paintings when he returned to take over the family vines. For forty years, he pursued both professions together. The estate retains his name, although Charles no longer runs it.
Essential references

Domaine Bernard Baudry

Loire · Chinon

  • A Chinon for each soil: Bernard, followed by Matthieu Baudry, reveals cabernet franc through Chinon’s different soils. They vinify the sites separately to preserve their individual characters.
  • The old vines of Les Grézeaux: « Les Grézeaux » comes from the estate’s oldest vines, around seventy years old and planted on gravel. The cuvée is aged in concrete, without spending time in barrels.
  • Dense and silky: « Les Grézeaux », a red Chinon, presents a dense, concentrated cabernet franc with a silky feel. In great years, it can age for ten years and longer.
