Place & climate

  • Location: On the Loire’s right/north bank, west of Bourgueil.
  • Soils: Sandy-gravel terraces and clay-limestone slopes provide contrasting sites.
  • Grape: Cabernet Franc, locally called Breton, is principal; limited Cabernet Sauvignon may contribute.

Grapes & table

  • Colours: Red and rosé only; a nearby white wine uses a different eligible appellation.
  • Style: Fruit, herbal notes and tannin vary with ripeness, site and cellar choices.
  • Contrast: A light-looking Cabernet Franc may still have firm tannin; taste before deciding service.
  • Assess: Taste for supple fruit versus a firmer, more extracted style; a light chill is useful only while the tannin stays comfortable.
  • Pair: Try rillettes or roast chicken with thyme jus for a fruit-forward red: acidity lifts the rich texture. A fuller bottle suits pork with mushroom pan sauce. Rosé with grilled peppers and chicken salad keeps the food lighter.
  • Service: Begin reds around 14–16°C and rosé at 9–11°C. Give a simple fruity red a light chill and pour directly; briefly aerate a robust closed cuvée. Mature sediment calls for a gentle decant, not extended air.
