Place & identity

  • Location: Right-bank Garonne slopes, south of Loupiac, with limestone and fossil oyster beds.
  • Style: Sweet white wine, distinct from the red wines made in the broader district.
  • Grapes: Sémillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle are key references.

Hierarchy & style

  • Production: Overripe and often botrytised grapes are selected in successive harvest passes.
  • Taste tendency: Concentrated fruit and sweetness with balancing acidity; richness varies by wine.
  • Label distinction: A separate AOC, not a lesser growth within Sauternes.

At the table

  • Assess: Assess sweetness, acidity, texture and any botrytis-related complexity. The limestone and fossil-oyster setting is geographical context, not proof that the wine will taste saline.
  • Pair: Try Roquefort or foie gras, or serve with spice-glazed duck for a savoury contrast. Fruit desserts can work when their sweetness remains proportionate.
  • Service: Start around 8–10°C with a measured 70–90 ml pour. Let a complex bottle warm and open slightly in the glass rather than automatically decanting it.
