Pioneers and renewal
Hamilton Russell Vineyards
Hemel-en-Aarde Valley
- A commitment to cool climate: In 1975, Tim Hamilton Russell chose a property near Hermanus that had no vineyard yet. His aim was to explore the cool-climate wines of this coastal area.
- Two varieties, estate-grown grapes: Taking over in 1991, his son Anthony refocused the range on pinot noir and chardonnay, exclusively from the estate. The 2022 « Pinot Noir » bears the origin Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, one of the sectors of Walker Bay.
- A firm, spicy pinot: « Pinot Noir » 2022: dark red cherry, dried flowers and wild herbs, with an earthy touch. The medium-bodied palate shows firm tannins and a spicy finish.
