A newer river-oasis landscape

  • Place: Neuquén lies west of Río Negro. San Patricio del Chañar and Añelo are the key vineyard names to place first; vineyards developed rapidly around modern irrigation projects.
  • Growing conditions: A dry continental climate combines abundant sun, wind and cool nights. Windbreaks and water management are practical vineyard concerns; Patagonia does not mean every site is too cold for fuller reds.

Pinot Noir and more

  • Wines: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay connect Neuquén with the wider Patagonian study map, while Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon broaden its red range. Some Pinot Noirs have ripe fruit and appreciable body, depending on harvest and extraction.
  • Compare: Use a documented San Patricio del Chañar Pinot Noir beside a Mainqué wine from Río Negro. Compare ripeness, acid, tannin and oak without treating province or vineyard age as a fixed style formula.

At the table

  • Pinot Noir: Pair a supple example with roast chicken, pork terrine or mushrooms; gentle tannins keep the match lighter than a full-bodied red.
  • Malbec: Pair with roast lamb and rosemary or steak with a savoury jus; the meat and sauce support a structured red.
  • Service: Supple reds: 14–16°C. Structured reds: 16–18°C; decant mature sedimented bottles gently just before service.
