Champagne on the map
- Location: North-eastern France, east of Paris; Reims and Épernay anchor the northern vineyard, with the Aube farther south.
- Northern sectors: Montagne de Reims: Pinot Noir and structure; Vallée de la Marne: Meunier and fruit, with Pinot Noir important around Aÿ.
- Chardonnay sectors: Côte des Blancs and Côte de Sézanne are useful Chardonnay anchors. These are grape tendencies, not guarantees for every vineyard or blend.
- Southern sector: Côte des Bar in the Aube is especially associated with Pinot Noir. The five study sectors are geographical groupings, not five separate AOCs.
- Wider map: The Comité groups four main areas; Sézanne is a useful additional study sector. The Vitry-le-François area also belongs in the wider regional picture.
- Three appellations: Champagne is sparkling; Coteaux champenois makes still red, white and rosé; Rosé des Riceys is a separate still rosé.
