Place & landscape

  • Location: The far south of Corsica, facing Sardinia across the Strait of Bonifacio.
  • Ground & air: Limestone settings and strong maritime winds distinguish many local sites from nearby granite landscapes.
  • Wine category: Bonifacio is a geographical reference here. Read the actual AOC, IGP or Vin de France designation on each bottle.

People & wines

  • Domaine Zuria: A Bonifacio estate reference; its wines should not be relabelled Figari simply because the areas are close.
  • Tarra di Sognu: The Bonifacio project associated with Yves Canarelli; distinct from Clos Canarelli’s Figari home.
  • Buzzo Bunifazziu: The estate behind Biginti, its Barbarossa parcel/wine; Biginti is a real cuvée name.

At the table

  • Nielluccio: Serve with roast lamb, grilled pork or a slow-cooked beef ragù; savoury meat and sauce give the tannins a substantial match.
  • Sciaccarello: Pair a supple example with roast chicken, pork terrine or mushrooms; gentle tannins keep the match lighter than a full-bodied red.
  • Service: Supple reds: 14–16°C. Structured reds: 16–18°C; decant mature sedimented bottles gently just before service.
  • Vermentinu: Grilled fish or prawns; serve around 12°C.
