Northeastern Peloponnese

  • Location: Northeastern Peloponnese, mainly Korinthia with part of the zone in Argolida.
  • Relief: Lowland, hillside and higher vineyards ripen differently.
  • Climate: Elevation and exposure modify Mediterranean growing conditions.

Agiorgitiko: from supple to structured

  • Grape and style: PDO Nemea is red wine from 100% Agiorgitiko; dry wines are the main reference.
  • Youthful reds: Fresh red-fruit character and relatively supple tannin are common entry points.
  • Longer-lived styles: Lower-yielding fruit, extraction and oak can give denser wines with a firmer structure.
  • Compare with Xinomavro: Agiorgitiko often feels rounder, but producer choices and vintage can outweigh a simple grape stereotype.

Pairing and service

  • Start with weight: A supple young example can suit grilled vegetables, poultry or lighter meat dishes; a structured bottling needs more weight.
  • Oak and maturity: Assess oak, tannin and age before aerating or choosing a sauce.
  • Sweet categories: A sweet Nemea requires a different service decision from the dry wines most guests recognise.
