Historic estates and founders

Mastroberardino

Campania - Irpinia

  • Antonio refuses to abandon local grapes: After the damage caused by phylloxera and then war, Antonio Mastroberardino defended Irpinia’s grapes against the temptation of more productive varieties. His replanting work helped bring Aglianico, Fiano and Greco back to the forefront.
  • “Radici”, the roots of Taurasi: Created with the 1986 harvest, “Radici” is the house’s leading red. The 2020 Taurasi brings together Aglianico from Montemarano and Mirabella Eclano: cherry, violet and plum accompany its enveloping, structured palate.
  • Two whites, two characters: The “Radici” Fiano di Avellino comes from Santo Stefano del Sole:, it combines thyme, pear, hazelnut and citrus with breadth and acidity. “Novaserra”, a Greco di Tufo from Montefusco, combines apricot, pear, green almond and sage with a structured, savoury, fresh palate.
Pioneers and renewal

Feudi di San Gregorio

Campania · Irpinia

  • Irpinia rebuilt around its grapes: After the 1980 earthquake, Enzo Ercolino returned to help rebuild his region. He founded Feudi di San Gregorio with associates from the Ercolino and Capaldo families, placing local grape varieties at the centre of the project.
  • Taurasi: Aglianico in red: The estate’s Taurasi expresses Aglianico through sour cherry, cinnamon and anise. A full palate and supple tannins define this red side of its Irpinia range.
  • Pietracalda 2024: Fiano from a named vineyard: Pietracalda takes its name from a vineyard set among chestnut woods, fruit trees and a garden of old plant varieties. The 2024 Fiano di Avellino Riserva has a broad aromatic range and lively freshness. Feudi recommends 10–12°C with shellfish, fish or white meats.
