Further study

Rainwater

  • Style: Pale-to-golden, medium-dry Madeira.
  • Age label: Any stated age is no more than ten years; an age indication is optional.
  • Meaning: Rainwater is a wine designation, not a grape or a claim that water has been added.

Developed aromas & colour

  • Aromas: Depending on the wine, nut, citrus-peel, dried-fruit, caramel or spice notes may develop through maturation.
  • Colour: Gold, amber and brown shades reflect development and production; colour alone does not establish age or quality.
  • Balance: Acidity, sweetness and alcohol shape the palate; heat-ageing does not make every bottle taste identical.

Still wines of Madeira

  • Different name: Madeirense DO and Terras Madeirenses IG cover other regional wines; an island address alone does not identify fortified Madeira.

Filtration is specific to the bottling

  • Check the bottling: Colheita, Frasqueira and an age indication do not, by themselves, state whether the wine was filtered. Follow the actual bottling’s technical and service guidance.
