Place & identity

  • Location: The commune of Loupiac, on the Garonne’s right-bank slopes south of Cadillac.
  • Style: Sweet white wine, distinct from the red wines made in the broader district.
  • Grapes: Sémillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle are key references.

Hierarchy & style

  • Production: Overripe and often botrytised grapes are selected in successive harvest passes.
  • Taste tendency: Concentrated fruit and sweetness with balancing acidity; richness varies by wine.
  • Label distinction: A separate AOC, not a lesser growth within Sauternes.

At the table

  • Assess: Assess the balance of sweet fruit, acidity and concentration, then note the wine’s development. Noble-rot influence and richness vary; the label does not dictate one sugar level.
  • Pair: Roquefort, Stilton, foie gras or gently spiced duck are useful options. Choose a restrained fruit dessert rather than one whose sweetness masks the wine.
  • Service: Start around 8–10°C and use a measured 70–90 ml pour. Allow the aromas to develop in the glass and avoid routine long aeration.
